Malaysia’s Selayang Municipal Council as well as CLAIR have joined hands to implement the ‘Specialist Dispatch Project’ from 6 till 10 October 2019.
Based on the request made by the Waste Management and Health Department of Selayang Municipal Council, Mr. Hideho Tanaka from the Osaka Research Institute of Industrial Science and Technology was dispatched as a Specialist to Selayang Municipal Council so as to conduct the relevant trainings in waste management.
During the first half of the project, the specialist visited several local areas which have seen persistent issues of illegal waste dumping, where he has provided useful advice to Selayang Municipal Council on the possible methods of solving the problems.
The second half of the project featured a series of lecture by the specialist, which covered topics such as illegal dumping, recycling activities as well as public participation.
The specialist encouraged the local participants to devise their own action plans in counteracting the local waste issues, which sparked very constructive discussions among the local participants.
Overall, the project was a great success as it instilled new awareness among the local participants pertaining to the necessity of devising their own effective waste management based on the local context. This project has been made possible with the great collaboration and assistance from Selayang Municipal Council.
