Sapporo International Art Festival 2027 (SIAF2027) will imagine Sapporo as a single planet—Planet Snow—prompting us to reflect on this planet’s ways of life as well as history, culture, and the future as a whole.
The theme can be expressed with two phrases in Ainu, the language of Japan’s Indigenous people, who have developed a distinct culture.
For those who live in Sapporo, Planet Snow is “upas mintar (snow garden),” and for those visiting from afar, it is “upas nociw (snow star).”
Bringing together artworks and new forms of expression from Japan and around the world, SIAF2027 will take place from January 16 (Sat) to February 21 (Sun), 2027.
