Specialist Dispatch Project in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

 Under CLAIR’s Specialist Dispatch Project scheme, 3 specialists from the hyper rescue team of Tokyo Fire Department were dispatched to Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia to assist in the implementation of a training program administered by the Malaysia Civil Defence Department (MCDD). Aimed at enhancing trainees’ skills and techniques on rescue activities at high-rise buildings, the 2-week training program was conducted from 28th February to 14th March 2010, and was participated by 21 local firefighters coming from various locations in Malaysia. 2 firefighters from MCDD who have completed their training on rescue techniques at Tokyo Fire Department in November 2009 have served as leaders for the training program.

 

  The 2-week training program was conducted at Akademi Latihan Pertahanan Awam (ALPHA), which is a civil defence training institute under the MCDD. On the last day of the training program, an integrated exercise which showcased the skills acquired by the trainees over the course of 2-weeks was conducted. Immediately after the integrated exercise, a closing ceremony was held, and was attended by the Director General of MCDD, The Honourable Dato’ Hj. Abdul Halim bin Abdul Hamid, Mr. Yasuki ISHITANI (Second Secretary, Embassy of Japan in Malaysia), and also Mr. Yutaka OINUMA(Director of CLAIR Singapore). Mr. Kishi, the team leader for the 3 specialists from Tokyo Fire Department, has commented that “All 21 trainees have fully committed themselves to the training. I hope that they could fully utilize what they have learnt from the training, and share the knowledge with their colleagues” at the closing ceremony.
